Description
“I chose the photograph for our Ammolite wooden jigsaw puzzle because it is a particularly beautiful photograph I felt would make a wonderful puzzle. Ammolite is made of fossilized Ammonite shells, and the Nautilus and the Ammonite are both cephalopods–they are siblings with minor differences you may be interested in knowing more about. I am personally most intrigued by the Ammonite and the Nautilus because of their widespread symbolism for life, new beginnings, spiritual growth, perfection, and beauty in various cultures. Additionally, I am fascinated by their correspondence to the Fibonacci number series, which is found abundantly in nature and also applied in modern day mathematics, economics, population dynamics, and more.”
The 19th Century American poet and physician Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote a well-known poem, The Chambered Nautilus, praising the Nautilus as a metaphor for the spiritual evolution of the soul: Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul….
Let each new temple, nobler than the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,
Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life’s unresting sea!
